Terrorist Attack Claims Six U.S. Navy VP Personnel
Six patrol squadron men lost their lives on 11 September 2001 as terrorists struck the Pentagon. Their identity and a brief description of their U.S. Navy careers is provided below.

CDR William H. Donovan, Jr., USN
CDR Donovan was assigned as the OPNAV N-513 Strategy & Concepts Action Officer. His prior assignments include VP-11, VP-31, Naval Post Graduate School, CVN-73, VP-1, and OPNAV N-512 (Policy and Doctrine).
He is survived by his wife Elaine and their three young children.

CAPT Lawrence D. Getzfred, USN
CAPT Getzfred was assigned as the Deputy Watch Captain and Branch Head for Joint Operations and Plans (OPNAV N3/5). His prior assignments include enlisted service as a Antisubmarine Warfare Technician (P-3s), obtaining a commission and service with VP-6, VP-31, Royal Air Force (Kinloss, Scotland), CPW-10, VP-46, Commanding Officer VP-40, Naval War College, JCS (Strategic Planning and Policy Dept), and CPWP (Hawaii).
He is survived by his wife Patricia the their two daughters (age 11 & 12).

CAPT Jack D. Punches Jr., USN (Ret)
CAPT Punches was assigned as the Deputy Head, Navy Interagency Support Branch (a senior civilian position). His prior assignments include VP-16, VP-30, VPU-1, Naval War College, VP-49, OIC NAMTRAGRUDET JAX, Commanding Officer VR-24, USSTRATCOM, Office of the CNO (Navy Counterdrug and Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of the Navy for Counterdrug Matters), and Deputy Director, Operations and Interagency Support Div. He retired from the Navy in July 2000.
He is survived by his wife Janice and their two children.

AW1 Pycior was assigned to the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV N310) Knowledge Management Branch. His prior assignments include Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, USS WILLIAM S. SIMS (FF 1059), USS SEATTLE (AOE 3), VP-8, Navy Recruiting District Philadelphia, Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic, and the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73).
He is survived by his wife Terri and their two young sons (ages 8 and 10).
