Gilman then had to hold off Mount St. Joseph quarterback Nick Tanis, who torched the Greyhounds' defense for 363 yards. Tanis twice got the Gaels into opposition territory in the final minute, but interceptions by Nathan Hummel and Anthony Triplin ended the drives.

"I think Mount St. Joseph was just magnificent," said Gilman coach Biff Poggi. "I thought they outplayed us. I thought they outcoached us. We've never given up 45 points since I've [been here]."

Landon pushed the lead back to 14-7 on a 1-yard run by fullback Andy Loomis with 1:01 left in the opening quarter. His score was set up by a Lattimore fumble on a punt return that was recovered by co-captain Mike Chapman. Three plays later, Lattimore redeemed himself with a 70-yard touchdown run on lateral from quarterback Nick Tanis. Lattimore received the ball on the right sideline but ran all the way across to the left sideline for the score early in the second quarter.

Landon took a 21-14 lead by marching 85 yards on 11 plays. Fullback Austin Sanders capped the impressive drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. The Gaels, however, struck again on their very next play from scrimmage as
Nick Tanis hooked up with Matt Goldberg for a 72-yard touchdown pass with 1:29 left before halftime.

With the Bears leading 14-7, Lattimore lined up on the right as the only running back behind three receivers, caught a crisp, lateral pass from senior quarterback Nick Tanis, reversed field and bolted 70 yards down the left sideline to score. John Mudrick's extra-point kick tied the game, 14-14, on the first play of the second quarter.

...the Gaels tied it again on a 72-yard strike from
Nick Tanis to junior wide receiver Matt Goldberg and another Mudrick extra point.

Nick Tanis completed eight of 11 passes for 147 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and Goldberg made three catches for 113 yards and a touchdown in the first half before leaving with an injured wrist.

In the second half, the Gaels all but abandoned the pass,
Nick Tanis throwing just three times.

Mount St. Joseph quarterback Nick Tanis can attest to what it's like to face Abiamiri.

"Victor's the kind of player that, when you go to block him, he won't stay blocked. He gets close by, with his long arms, and he's so fast, that it's hard to get away," Nick Tanis said. "You're trying to keep your eyes on your receivers down the field, but you have to try to keep one eye on him every single play."
