![]() Prep Notebook By Kevin Bradford, Staff Writer December 19, 2001 TANIS ON THE MARK: Severna Park resident Nick Tanis, a junior quarterback at Mount St. Joseph, set a single-season state record with 36 touchdown passes this season for the Gaels (7-4). The previous record was set back in 1968 and later tied in 1996. Tanis also threw for 2,342 yards, which is the fifth-best single-season passing performance in state history, earning second-team All Baltimore City/County honors. Not bad for a first-year starting quarterback. Tanis hooked up for a record-breaking season with his favorite target in senior receiver J.J. Outlaw, who is alson a standout basketball player. Outlaw who had 78 catches this season from Tanis, set state records for single-season receiving yards (1,428), touchdown catches (20), career touchdown receptions (41) and career catches (167). ![]() SS3 Sports By Sheldon Shealer J. Tanis threw for a state-leading 2.342 yards and a state record 36 touchdowns." ![]() SS3 Sports By Sheldon Shealer This one is a week old, but well worth mentioning. Mount St. Joseph junior quarterback Nick Tanis threw for 409 yards and five touchdowns in MSJ's season-opening 46-41 victory over Steubenville (Ohio) on Aug. 24. If the numbers are confirmed, Tanis would have set a new state record. ![]() By John Doman Nick Tanis, the Gaels’ phenomenal junior quarterback, threw two of his four TD passes to wide receiver J.J. Outlaw in the second, a 70-yard bomb with 7:37 left to play, and a 27-yarder at 1:51. Tanis lived up to his reputation going 18-of-29 for 396 yards. ![]() By John Doman Mount St. Joseph 32 - Thomas Stone 28 "It was an entertaining game that indicated the fire power that the Mount Offense could generate, especially through the air. Nick Tanis had his career game: five touchdown passes, one to scoring leader Keon Lattimore and four to superstar JJ Outlaw. Thomas Stone is a quality football team, and the Mount had to play well to prevail. Mission accomplished. Last game of the season and last game for the seniors against the Dons of Loyola in today's game. |
