Boyer was born in Washington, D.C., attended the University of Maryland, and graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Later that year, he was accepted into the Aviation Officer Candidate Program at Pensacola, Florida, was commissioned an Ensign in 1978, and was designated a Naval Aviator in August 1979. Following fleet replacement training in the P-3 Orion aircraft, in April 1980 he reported to VP-17 at NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii. Flying the P-3, he qualified as a Patrol Plane Commander, Mission Commander, Instructor Pilot and Maintenance Check Pilot. His ground assignments included Avionics/ Armament Division Officer and Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) Officer. During his tour of duty, Captain Boyer deployed to NAS Cubi Point, Philippines and participated in detachments to NAS Agana, Guam, NSF Diego Garcia, and NAS Adak, Alaska. His next assignment in August 1983 was to Navy Recruiting District Jacksonville, Florida where he served for three years as an Officer Programs Recruiter. In August 1986 Captain Boyer reported to his first Reserve squadron, VP-62, at NAS Jacksonville, Florida where he re-qualified as a plane commander and mission commander. His ground jobs included Safety Officer and Operations Officer. During his tour, VP-62 underwent an extensive transition from the P-3C MOD aircraft to the then state-of-the-art P-3C Update III. He was next assigned to VP-64 at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania where he served as both the Operations Officer and Maintenance Officer. During this tour, he was selected for follow-on assignment as a squadron Officer-in-Charge (OIC). In July 1991 Captain Boyer reported to VP-62 as the OIC. Over the next 18 months, VP-62 conducted counter-drug operations out of NS Roosevelt Roads, PR and NAS Key West, Florida, and was deployed to NAS Bermuda for six weeks of Annual Training. Following his OIC tour in January 1993, he reported to Naval Air Reserve (NAR) Jacksonville where he served as the Reserve Programs Director and Executive Officer. During his tour, NAR Jacksonville won the Ensign C.H. Hammann Award as the most efficient NAR in the Force. From August 1996 to June 1997, Captain Boyer attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C., graduating with a Masters Degree in National Resource Strategy. His next assignment was at Reserve Patrol Wing Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia where he served as Chief Staff Officer (CSO). As CSO, he managed the Wing's Squadron Assist Visit Program for five (and later seven) squadrons, and oversaw the career progression of numerous TAR aviation officers. He was also instrumental in the consolidation of Reserve Patrol Wings Atlantic and Pacific into a single Reserve Patrol Wing. My most interesting P-3 related assignment was as a contractor at Naval Air Development Center Warminster where we moved over 100 research labs to NAS Patuxent River, Maryland as a result of a BRAC closure. We found some pretty interesting stuff tucked away in that base!! BTW, now I direct a Hospitality House here in NS Rota, Spain. We work with the Base chapel to provide a home away from home atmosphere for the military community. We love seeing our Navy friends whenever they pass through. Fava is from Charleston, South Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a Naval ROTC Scholarship. FULLER, LCDR Scott Circa 2005 http://reserves.navy.mil/ "...Lieutenant Commander Fuller, a native of Lockport, New York, graduated from the University of Rochester and was commissioned an Ensign in May of 1991. Following Flight Training, he was designated a Naval Flight Officer in March 1993. Upon completion of Fleet Replacement Training at VP-30 in February 1994, Lieutenant Commander Fuller reported for his first operational tour with the "War Eagles" of VP-16 at NAS Jacksonville, Florida. Serving as ASW TACCO and NFO Training Officer, he deployed to NAS Keflavik, Iceland and NAS Sigonella, Sicily. He was also designated a Patrol Plane Tactical Coordinator, Mission Commander, Instructor TACCO and a NATOPS Instructor TACCO. In January of 1997, Lieutenant Commander Fuller returned to the "Pro's Nest" of VP-30 to serve as a Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) Instructor. While assigned to VP-30 he served as a member of the ASUW Improvement Program (AIP) Fleet Introduction Team (FIT), where he was responsible for the introduction of AIP aircraft throughout the P-3 community. After a year of serving on the FIT, he led the Fleet NATOPS Team as the Senior NFO Evaluator. Designations included FRS Instructor TACCO, Mission Commander, AIP FIT Instructor, Instructor Under Training (IUT) Instructor and Fleet NATOPS Evaluator. In January 1999, Lieutenant Commander Fuller was accepted into the Training and Administration of Reserve (TAR) Program and reported to the Reserve ASW Training Center (RATCEN) at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, where he served as the Training Officer, Block Modification Upgrade Program (BMUP) Transition Officer and Director of Training. While at RATCEN he developed and led the Naval Reserve through its transition from the P-3C Update II/II.5 to the most advanced ASW platform, the BMUP aircraft. After a rewarding tour at RATCEN, Lieutenant Commander Fuller reported back to NAS Jacksonville, Florida in September 2002 where he served as the Training Officer and Maintenance Officer for the VP-62 "Broadarrows." While with the Broadarrows, Lieutenant Commander Fuller detached to NAF Kadena, Okinawa, Japan and NAS Sigonella, Sicily in support of the Global War on Terrorism. There I completed qualifications for Mission Commander in the P-3A "Orion" aircraft and held collateral duties as Public Affairs Officer. Our operational deployments included NAS Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, tracking the first Soviet nuclear submarine detected in the Gulf of Mexico; NATO Maritime Patrol School in Londonderry, Northern Ireland; NATO exercises in Norway; and routine ASW missions from NAS Bermuda, the NAF Lajes, Azores, Portugal and NAS Sigonella, Sicily. I was released from active duty in December 1971 and affiliated with the Naval Air Reserve and was assigned to VP-62. Love was born in Greenville, Pennsylvania in 1953. He has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida Technical University and a Master of Arts degree from Pepperdine University. Prior to commissioning in 1980, he was enlisted in both the Air Force and later in the Navy. During his enlisted Navy career he was attached to VP-49 at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, as a non-acoustic operator on the P-3C aircraft. After graduating from Aviation Officer Candidate School and Naval Flight Officer training, he reported to VP-24. In August 1984, he was selected for the Training and Administration of Reserves (TAR) program. From 1985 to 1988, Captain Love was assigned to TSC NAS Bermuda. Do any of you by chance remember him? He was a white Irish Catholic, approx 5'7" tall and 176 lbs. w/brown hair and blue eyes. He was probably a wise guy with a great sense of humor. I have some pictures of him in the 50's but I'll have to search around for those any older than that. I don't know too much about him because he and mom divorced the year I was born. I just received the Bronze Star posthumously for him on April 3, 2009. The Navy has already reissued the rest of his medals to me. If any of you remember my dad please write back. The experience was great right up to the last moment when the Navy said to leave active duty and become a SELRES. Nothing against the SELRES bunch, but I needed full time employment and took a job with NOAA as a navigator on the WP-3D hurricane hunter variant. After about 5 years, and mainly due to a pilot shortage and hiring freeze, NOAA sent me back to flight training. I squeeked through and became a Lake Seawolf and DHC-6 pilot. In an ironic twist of fate, 3 years later, NOAA then sent me back to the Navy as a pilot and a tour with the Naval Research Lab (NRL). What a great unit and bunch of folks! They were apprehensive at first since I was a trans-vest-FO but eventually they taught me everything a growing P-3 pilot needed to know. Now I'm back at NOAA and punching through hurricanes from the front seat and loving every minute of it. I'm a CDR now and still view my tour at VP-62 as some of the best years of my life..." I was with what eventually became VP-67 when it moved to NAS Memphis, Tennessee in 1969/1970. I even still have my old VP-67 nametag. I left the squadron around 1970/1971 to go to Costa Rica, C.A. with my Dad. I returned to Florida in 1975, heard about the program at VP-62 and re-afiliated with the Reserves in 1976. I went to VP-30 for FE school and qualified in October 1977. That is when I recalled as a TAR and began my active duty career. I was stationed at VP-62 until 1981, when I transferred to VP-60 in NAS Glenview, Illinois. In 1985 I "moved down the hall" from Cobra country to Lion country and VP-90. In 1992 I returned to Snake country to become a Cobra once again. In 1993 I returned to the Broadarrows of VP-62. Where I was until my health grounded me. I am now stationed at HS-75 and plan to retire in 2000. I also have my own financial services, business funding and mortgage purchasing company. I had been affiliated with NAS Glenview, Illinois and its squadrons off and on since 1964. I served VP-90 as a MAD/Trail, FCO and an IFT in the P2V7 and P-3A and P-3B. I met many great friends in this close nit unit and many I still correspond with and visit with in my travels around the country. VP-90 presented me with the capability of joining the Navy and seeing the world. It was really great and I couldn't have found a better bunch of dedicated guys to do that with. In 1986 I transferred to the Naval Reserve Unit Tiger Tail in Miami and then finally to NAS Jacksonville, Florida and worked in the ASWOC for a short while and was finally transferred to VP-62 as the senior first class and section leader as well as WC-210 Supervisor and transitioned into the P-3C Update 3 III where I finished up with 32 years. Currently I am a member of NARF (Naval Aircraft Restoration Foundation). We work on the restoration of the larger naval aircraft in museums. Not only do we clean up and restore the outsides, but we try to restore the aircraft interiors so that the mission is also preserved..." [07JUN2009]

I surely can remember some harrowing night flights during those panamanian tropical depressions, they were surely not for the faint at heart. Transitioned to NAS Bermuda with the squadron, flew some aircrew missions there and still remember that night flight from NOB to Bermuda to escape hurricane Hazel. I remember counting parachutes in flight and we were one short for the crew, was not a good feeling!!!. After leaving NAS Bermuda I served on Corey Field in Pensacola Fl., then at NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida in pilot training squadrons with SNJ's and T28'S. In later years I joined the Naval Reserves in NAS Jacksonville, Florida and served in VP-0516, an augmentation sqdn. to VP-62 assigned to P-3's. Thanks to those early beginnings and training in the NAVY I have enjoyed an interesting career in the missile industry, working lots of programs including the Saturn 5 program to the moon, Apollo Soyuz, Skylab, and Have worked with the Space Shuttles on all flights from the start until today.
