I did some air time as an "observer" but was in the Admin office as a yeoman (YN3). I rememger the "FAM Hops" out of Keflavik specifically, a trip to Amsterdam allowed me and a good budy Dick Cole to spend 2 days with my Grandfathers sister and husband in Amsterdam. I remember all the good times on liberty with so many swell guys, also the winters in NAS Keflavik, Iceland & NAS Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada and the summer TDY'S to NS Roosevelt Roads, PR. Would love to hear from any old Shipmates. I have added a link to open to my webshots album titled "Navy Days with VP-26" which once opened contains 45 pictures of faces and places encountered while serving in VP-26. All hands were lost. I did not get to know the crew well but found them to be fine men. In the spring of 1959 I was aboard the new LK8 just off of NAS Key West, Florida when the starboard engine sucked in a valve and had to be shut down and the prop feathered. We made it safely back to the station and were thankful that we were alive in light of what happened to the previous LK8. We all were mindful of the loss of those good men and prayerful for our Shipmates and their families. I often think of them and their sacrifice...especially as I sit here on this Memorial Day..."
