DICKSON, AEC Dave Retired dicksondg@navair.navy.mil "...I was a career VP sailor, retiring as an AEC in January 1990. Starting in the VP-30 Electric Shop in 1970 and ending in the Maintenance Division of VP-16 in 1990. In between I was in VP-45, VX-1, VP-17, and Naval Air Development Center. The nine years in the electric shop was a great back ground for the P-3 and really helped me through Flight Engineer school in 1980. I'm currently working for Boeing on the F-18 Super Hornet program in the Maintenance Data Center as a Product Support Technician. I have many good memories of experiences and friends in the Navy and would like to hear from anyone who I was stationed with!..." [19DEC2000]
DINGEE, AMSC C. R. Retired crd1939@embarqmail.com "...I served with VP-11 from 1965 to 1969 at NAS Brunswick, Maine. During the 1965-1966 timeframe, I was an AMS2, I was a shop type maint. crewmember (flying min. time, and on test flts. mainly) on the P2's. In 1967 we transitioned to the P-3's having gone through the AM maint. courses, I thouhgt I'd like to become a Flight Engineer, in August 1967 I departed for VP-30 in NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. I made it through Grnd. Phase with out a hitch, but, moving to the next phase, OFT and performance charts, I FLUNKED OUT! I left VP-30 and rejioned my Sqdrn. in disgrase. When my CO and I talked things over, I told him that up to this point in my life I did not know I needed glasses, (can't work the charts if you can't see them clearly). So, to make a long story short, I got glasses, went back to VP-30 in 1968, and made it as a Flt.eng.! To my knowledge I am the ONLY person to go through Flt. Eng. training a second time during the transition envelope for a Sqdrn. and succesfully complete the course. (VP-30 probably still would like to say no one ever did it, but go back and check the records---I did it). Thuoght you might find my 10 minutes of fame and glory interesting...Joined VP-23 in December 1970, departed July 1974, best tour of sea duty I ever had in 22+ years of service. Spent most of my tour as F/E on CAC-8---PPC C. C. Nute (he went on to be C.O. of a west coast VP Sqdrn.) My last contact with him (or any of our old crew) was in 1980. I was in Indian ocean, in VF-143 on CVN-69 (IKE), and he was back KEF.!!! Any old crewmembers that want to get in touch , feel free. I retired out of VF-43 NAS Oceana, Va., in 1984, now retired, and living (with wife Betty, and you guys said it would never last) in Ocala Fl. Sure don't miss the snow and cold! I was in VX-1 from 1974-77, as an AMS-1. Spent most os my time on the LINE CREW. My wife Betty was President of the Enlisted Wives Club while we were there, we both still have many fond memories of our tour there (anyone remember the PIG ROAST ?). Any old Shipmates from that era are welcome to get in touch if they'd like..." "...EMBACH, AWCS Chuck Retired...It's my sad duty to share the news about the death of one of our VP-17 Shipmates. I received the attached email from Linda Embach last night, regarding AWC Chuck Embach's sudden death Thursday October 18, 2007. I know we've always considered Chuck to be a good friend, valued Shipmate and bright spot in our memories of our VP-17. He always had a smile and cheerful words to share. If any of you don't exactly recall, AWC Chuck Embach worked in the Ops Dept and did his daily magic with our flight schedule during our '75-78 deployments. Most of us didn't see a lot of Chuck because he was constantly buried behind his desk, trying to figure out some way to make the tasking fit our assets.
