HistoryVP-110 HistoryHistory

Circa 1945

HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: "...The medal is period hand engraved "LT (JG) J.R. CLARK / 1945" on the reverse (engraving appears much nicer in person than it appears in the photos). Comes complete with a wide 1/2" sized pin backed ribbon bar and "short" titled USN style presentation case. Also included are two original (not photocopies) documents found folded underneath the medal pad in the case. One is a letter from US Naval Air Station in Hutchinson, KS ordering LT (JG) Clark to an award ceremony to receive his Air Medal at 0900 on 7 Sept. 1945, and the other is a period newspaper clipping describing Clark's WWII service and Air Medal citation. All items show signs of light wear and soiling, consistent with 60+ years of age. Please view scan(s) for exact condition, and email any questions before bidding. According to the newspaper article, LT (JG) John R. Clark joined the Navy in 1942 and received the Air Medal for "outstanding airmanship and meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flights in a PB4Y-1 bomber on anti-submarine patrol in the Bay of Biscay and the English Channel." He was from Mexico, OR, and served in the European Theater during WWII as a member of VPB-110 squadron..."
