Memorial Picture "...ADAMS, ATC Charles David...ADAMS, ATC Charles David, age 61, passed away March 25, 2013 in San Antonio. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy. Known as "Dave" while assigned to VP-4 from 1971 to 1975, he flew with several crews as an Inflight Technician. He was a former Scout Master with Troop 513. Mr. Adams was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Selma, TX, and served with the Guadalupana Society. He is survived by his wife, Nora Adams; Sons and Daughters-in-law: Matthew & Kari Adams, Andrew & Anne Adams; Daughter, Allison Adams; Brothers: Mike and Norman Adams; Sisters: Judi Tometich and Jaime Kindermann; Also surviving are 3 Grandsons: Landry, Garrett, and Luke. Memorial Picture Shipmate PixCirca 1964 "...ADDISON, LCDR LeRoy E. II, "Roy"...LeRoy E. Addison II, “Roy”, faithful husband, loving father, and loyal friend died peacefully in El Cajon after a second battle with colon cancer at the age of 78. Roy is survived by his wife, Sylvia, and four children: Bennett (preceded in death), James, Victor and Angelique. Roy also had seven loving grandchildren: BJ (preceded in death), Justin, Sylvia, Christina, Harper, Crawford, Story, Crenshaw and two great grandchildren: Evelynne and Maurice. Roy loved his country and actively served in the United States Navy for 26 years, retiring as a Lt. Commander. Roy went on to a second career with the San Diego Union Tribune. He was committed to his church, served with Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the VFW. Roy was described as "that guy who would help you in any way he could." He was a mentor to many young people in his life and had long lasting relationships with them. Roy had an engaging smile and took the time to talk with everyone. He was most commonly described as "such a sweet man." Roy’s kindness and generosity will be greatly missed. Funeral Services will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on February 09 at 1:30 pm. It was Roy’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to St Jude’s Children Hospital. Ten years later, in 1960, I flew to Hong Kong in a plane co-piloted by my old Executive Officer from VS-25 (Cdr. Kelly) An old TBM driver flying an R5D. I spent a year in VP-1. Six months of it at NAF Kadena, Okinawa, Japan as a Barracks MAA. (One guy died from Encephalitis while we were living in tents, so they moved us into a barracks area) I loved that tour and came home Thanksgiving. Turkey Dinners on both sides of the Dateline. I also ran a Crash Boat Crew and Seaplane Ramp at NAS Cubi Point, Philippines where we operated with P5M's from VP-40 for one week a year. I had to send one of their P5M's back on a barge when the Coxwain of my Line Handling Boat went inside the P5M instead of alongside. Went to the NAS Cubi Point, Philippines for FASRON-113, but it got phased out and I went to NAS instead. Spent time on BHR, Shangri-La, Midway, and Forrestal, plus recruiting in Syracuse, NY and Crash Crew at Pensacola. Retired in Oct of '69..." [25MAR2000]

ADAMS, AWCS(AW) Mike Retired yardmarker08@gmail.com "...I entered into VP aviation as a Julie/ECM operator as an AX3 in 1964. My first squadron was VP-42, Crew-8, basically flying in the "maintenance officer's" crew (LCDR Ara Sarkisian and LCDR Marshall Martin). Leaving VP-42 with the disestablishment, I went to FAETUPAC NAS North Island, San Diego, California as a TACCO ASA-16 Instructor. FAETUPAC moved to NAS Moffett Field, California in 1969. In 1970 I was transferred to VP-4 as an SS1. I flew until I had blood pressure problems which landed me in Schedules. I remained there until 1976, when I transferred to CNAP Natops. After a two year tour there, I was fortunate to fly with the Canadian Forces (CF) (VP-415 and VP-405). With the decommissioning of the ARGUS, the AW billet went away and was replaced by an NFO billet in the AROURA airframe. In July 1980 I landed in ASWOC NAF Kadena, Okinawa, Japan, ending up as the Senior Enlisted, Assistant Ops, Opcon, and Briefing/Debriefing Officer. In 1985 I came to Dam Neck as the ASWOC Watch Officer Instructor. While there, I incorporated Watch Officer "field trips" to NOPF Dam Neck, Bldg NH-95 Norfolk to "tie-in" NavFac, Command Watch Office, and the Command Center. I left this tour far a tour at ASWOC NSF Diego Garcia. Leaving there, I followed Harry Niestrath through the Senior Enlisted Academy, and then doing my twilight tour in FCDSSA Dam Neck, working on the op program for the ASWMOD's on the carriers. I was fortunate to work on ALL the carriers active in 1992, except the USS Constellation and USS Enterprise which were in the yards. I retired as an AWCS(AW) August 01, 1992 and still live down the road from Dam Neck in Virginia Beach..." [25DEC2010]

We rotated to NAS Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada regularly to fly supplies into Bluie West 1 in Greenland when the Fjords were frozen in. We delivered mail, refreshments (booze) and fresh fruit. We were normally on 1 month duration with two aircraft out of the squadron. When not on rotation we were practicing Anti-submarine warfare with the black shoe underwater crews. We also flew into NAS Bermuda, San Juan, NS Roosevelt Roads, PR and went on Air-sea searches for lost ships and/or aircraft. The Squadron was transferred to NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. in I believe the fall of 1948 and continued the same rotations and exercises. VP-HL-3 was also in NAS Patuxent River, Maryland and left later to become "Hurricane Hunters" in Florida. I lost contact and information about VP-HL-4 and would appreciate any information anyone has on it. I have some 8 x 10 photos of our squadron in flight. I donated a model to the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola along with my flight manual and some photos of the squadron in flight. I rotated from sea duty to the Training Command, Pensacola Fla. in Nov. 1949 and left the Navy in April, 1950..." [28APR99]

He was raised in Pine Bush, NY and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1982. Following designation as a Naval Aviator in February 1984, his first operational assignment was with VP-24. During this tour as a "Batman", he completed deployments to NAS Bermuda and NAS Sigonella, Sicily and served as the Pilot Training, Pilot NATOPS, and Safety/NATOPS Officer. In March 1988, Captain Adrion transferred to the "Pro's Nest" of VP-30 serving as Tactical Training Team Pilot, Aircraft Division Officer and Pilot Training Officer. His following sea duty was as the Operations Administration Officer aboard the USS SARATOGA where he qualified as an Officer of the Deck and deployed to the Mediterranean Sea in support of NATO operations in Bosnia. In August 1993, Captain Adrion reported to the "Screaming Eagles" of VP-1 in NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii, serving as the Command Services and Maintenance Officer. During his tour, he deployed to the western Pacific and Indian Oceans in support of United Nations' sanctions against Iraq. Following his Department Head tour, Captain Adrion was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, DC to serve as the VP / VQ Combat Placement Officer. In July 1997, he was selected to attend the Marine Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA where he completed a Masters Degree in Military Science. Captain Adrion reported to NAS Brunswick, Maine in March of 1999, serving as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of VP-26. From April 2001 to March 2003, he was Training Officer for Commander Patrol and Reconnaissance Force Atlantic and from March 2003 to March 2005 he was assigned to the Joint Staff as the Deputy Division Chief and Division Chief for the J-3 Reconnaissance Operations Division..."
