PV-2D Harpoon Restoration Project
Contributed by Ron Werneth Ron1977@interaccess.com

The Wisconsin Wing of the Confederate Air Force (CAF) has undertaken a project to completely restore to full military configuration a Lockheed PV-2D Harpoon bomber.

The PV-2 Harpoon was used primarily by the U.S. Navy during World War II. The Harpoon saw considerable and honorable service in both theaters of operations. Though over 500 PV-2's were built, only 35 "D" models were built before the war ended and the contract was canceled. Today there are only five or six "D" models remaining. The "D" model has a specially modified nose to accommodate eight .50 cal. machine guns.

Our PV-2D is currently undergoing a ground up restoration at our hangar at Waukesha County Airport. When we are finished, this aircraft will be the most completely restored and authentic military PV-2 Harpoon in the world and will receive national and international attention.

We named the plane "The Empire Express" in honor of the four Navy bombing squadrons of Fleet Air Wing Four that operated under that name in the Aleutians during the war.

The CAF is dedicated to the preservation of the world's greatest combat aircraft of 1939-1945, in flying condition, as a tribute to America and the men and women who built, serviced and flew them. We restore and preserve these symbols of our American Aviation Heritage so that present and future generations possess a part of history that can be touched, heard, smelled and seen and to remind them of this Nation's accomplishments in the defense of freedom.

We encourage you to visit us and see the restoration project First hand. Please call us at our hangar at (414) 547-1775 for an appointment.
