BAKER, Douglas H. fortbaker@comcast.net "...I served with VP-778 (1963-1964) at NAS Los Alamitos, California flying as a Crew Chief. I recall a long gruesome 14 hours to NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii!..." [24SEP2016]

BEIRO, Hilton Conrad pltg81@aol.com "...I first served with VS-778 at NAS Los Alamitos, California, October 1959 to September 1960 then NAS Agana, Guam October 1960 to August 1962 as a Joint Search And Rescue Coordinator (JSARCC). This assignment split my time between Alert monitoring in the office and aircrew in actual rescue ops in HRS-3's or UF-2's. The Flying Tiger MATS flight carrying 89 Rangers to Vietnam went down between Agana and Clark AFB in early 1962 on my watch. We never found on piece of wreckage afer the largest Air/Sea search in Naval History at that time. I transfered back to NAS Los Alamitos, California to VP-778 as a Searchlight operator from September 1962 to October 1964. Sad to say, Every Naval base I stepped on no longer exists..." [20MAY2006]
