I just wanted to say hi to all of my old Shipmates. It was great to soar with the foxes - some of the very best the Navy ever had. Deployed to NS Rota, Spain / NAS Sigonella, Sicily in 1960 and NS Rota, Spain again in 1962. Assigned to the FAW-6 ASCAC at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington for 62-65 and promoted to AX-1, transferred to VP-50 in 1964 and selected to attend OCS through the Integration Program in 1965. Commissioned Ensign, USN, URL in December 1965, Assigned as ASW Officer in USS Waller DD-466 out of Norfolk, 66-67, followed by a tour as Weapons then Operations Officer USS Richard B. Anderson out of San Diego DD-786, 68-69. This was followed by tour as the Weapons Officer for Cruiser/Destroyer Flotilla 9 out of San Diego, in 70-71, on onto a tour as the Senior Advisor to River Assault Group 22 in the Iron Triangle. Returned to San Diego in 1972 to teach Anti-Submarine Air Control at the Fleet ASW School San Diego until 1974 when I was selected to completed my under graduate degree at San Diego State. Then off to the Army Command and General Staff Course for the class of 75/76 at Leavenworth, KS. Back to San Diego for a tour as Operations Officer on USS Sterett CG- 31 until 1978 when I was assigned to Commander Naval Forces Korea, in Seoul as the Plans and Policy Officer until 1981. My Naval career closed with my retirement as the head of testing for CVA NTDS programs at FCDSSA San Diego in December 1983. Following initial P-3C Orion training, he reported to VP-24 for Cold War anti-submarine warfare deployments to NAS Sigonella, Sicily and NAS Keflavik, Iceland. In 1995, Commander Cannon reported to Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group TWO embarked in USS George Washington (CVN 73). My Mom and Dad just completed their memiours of the war years, along with their lifelong best friends John and Martha O'Conner. John was a B-24 pilot shot down and captured over Germany. Captain Cotton reported for duty to VP-8 at NAS Brunswick, Maine, in January 1978, deploying to NAS Bermuda, NAF Lajes, Azores, Portugal, and NS Rota, Spain. He graduated with merit from the United States Naval Academy in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering.
