BAYER, LT John jrbayer3@yahoo.com "...I entered via RTC San Diego, California in 1978, and served with VP-26 (CAC-1 and CAC-3) in P-3C (UII) from 1982 to 1984 and in VP-4549 (P-3A, B, B-Mod & Super B) from 1984 to 1987 as a non-acoustic (SS3). In the Reserve, converted to QM1, later IS1, and then was selected an Intel LDO. I was mobilized to active duty in 2002, and later converted to FTS (formerly TAR), then regular Restricted Line Intel O', remaining on active duty until 2013. Back to the Reserve for me in FEB '13, retired OCT '15 after 18 active & 19 reserve years. I'd like to hear from any former Shipmates, including those that served with me in USS HUNLEY (AS-31) from 1979-80, ONI (2002-04), JRIC Denver (2004-07), USS IWO JIMA (2007-09), or NMITC (2009-12)..." Logged nearly 3,000 hrs, 900 in P2's and the rest in P-3's. I was a Program Manager at Link during the development of the 2F140 series Tactics Simulators (2F140 #1 in NAS Jacksonville, Florida, #2 in NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii, #3 at NAS Moffett Field, California and #4 in NAS Brunswick, Maine) and the upgrade of the 2F69 from NAS Brunswick, Maine to the ASN-124 Mod, which ended up at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. After retirement, I joined Lockheed Flying Operations, and went to Air Force Base #6, Montijo, Portugal, with the P-3P program, as an SS-3 aircrew instructor to PoAF aircrews. While at Lockheed, I served on the First Flight crew for a number of P-3C’s coming off the assembly line in Palmdale, CA. After the Portuguese contract ended, I returned to Lockheed in Burbank, where I served as a Systems Safety engineer on the ill-fated P-7 program..." [13MAR2017]
