Memorial Picture "...WILLS, PH Barry...Barry E. Wills is with the Lord today having passed away on 15 January 2010. Born on 13 January 1945 in Abilene, Texas he traveled around the world with his parents, Howard and Irene Wills along with his brother, Dale, before settling in Washington in 1961. He joined the Navy after graduating from Franklin Pierce High School in 1963. Following a successful tours with VAP-61 and the USS Ranger (CV-61) during the Vietnam War he left the Navy to attend Western Washington University and spent his summers as a Park Ranger at Mt. Rainier National Park. After graduating in 1972 he chose a career in education and dedicated the next 30 years teaching in the Auburn School District. During these years he also enjoyed his association with the Center for Capable Youth at University of Washington (Mars City Alpha) and as a Scout Master with Pack 561. WILLS, PH Barry wills4550@comcast.net "...I was a photographers mate with VAP-61 from 64 to 65. I worked on the flight line on NAS Agana, Guam and NAS Cubi Point, Philippines. I worked on detachments to the carriers on Yankee Station. Life was great and exciting. I remember a guy named Whipple and another guy who drew cartoons of us. Acton would paint the pilot's helmets for a price and we drove around Guam in his rust bucket of a car. Three of us hiked inland and found a beautiful water fall that I still have great pictures of, I understand there's a hotel there now!..." [26APR2005]

WOOD, ADJC Doyle L. Retired woodywood255@earthlink.net "...I served two tours with VAP-61. The first tour with VAP-61 was from August 1961 to September 1962. I worked on the line as a Plane Captain. Two names still stay with me Mike Setzer (one of the biggest nuts that I ever met) and a sailor we all called Pappy Eanes (not sure if that's the way you spell his name). My second tour was from June 1966 to March 1969. I worked the line again for a while and went to the Power Plant Shop. We made many deployments. VAP-61 was the most enjoyable time that I had during my Navy career. I Got one extension while I was there and tried for the second but was refused. The Officers and Enlisted all were great..."
