I am writing this in regard to LCDR "Iron" John Howell, who is still alive at the age of 91 years and living here in Johnson City, TN. He is the one who few George 3 into to get the surviing men out in 1947 on the Operation Highjump (SEE:USS Pine Island (AV-12) George 1 (Lost December 30, 1946) Memorial). He will definately go do in history but as he is getting up in years now and is in ill health. I think it would be good to have some recgonition made in the part he played in this mission (a lot of the local people here in our hometown are not aware of his actions). He is still a very smart and intelligent man. He is a very good man who also married and was married to his first wife for 55 years and had 2 children until about 8 yrs ago when she passed. He has since remarried a wonderful lady Ann whom is very devoted to him. Thank you. Nancy hrte8@aol.com
