USS Gardiners Bay (AVP-39) Notice
NOTICE: "...On April 29, 1945 I was picked up by a PBM after being shot down over Kiki Jima. I was taken to the USS St. George (AV-16) which ship I presume was home port for the PBM. Have for years wanted to be in contact with anyone who may have been attached to the squadron or ship at that time. On the same day I was picked up the gun crew of the USS St. George (AV-16) had just shot down a kamakazi and took a kamakazi hit just five days later. I remember the ships Captain being one Capt. Robert Armstrong. Would be wonderful to hear from anybody from that time. Was with Torpedo Squadron 85, USS Shangri-La (CV-38)...Fred Coffee FCo051047@aol.com..." [22JAN2002]
