MYLLENBECK, CDR Rick rmyllenbeck@yahoo.com "...After a training stint in VP-31 and FASOTRAGRUPAC at NAS Moffett Field, California, I was assigned to VP-47 "The Golden Swordsmen" from 1977 to 1980. At the end of my active duty tour, I rotated directly into VP-91 "Black Cats" without missing a day. I flew with VP-91 Combat Aircrew 11 until I was commissioned and Ensign in 1988. In the end, I was a board-eligible AW1, SS-3 Blue Card instructor, and had amassed over 3,000 hours of flight time. I am now a CDR in the Navy Reserve Intelligence Program and live in the metro Washington, D.C. area. I sure miss fying in the Orion! Those were the good old days. My family has a rich and proud history in VP as my dad, Warren, was a Lockheed test pilot in the 1950s and flew the P2V platform extensively. He was the Lockheed rep to the VP squadrons at NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii between 1955 and 1958. If you have any information about the VP squadrons stationed at NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii during that time, please forward that information as I am completing an article about his experiences behind the stick of the Neptune.
