HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: CO.A.N. Other ThumbnailCameraP-3 "...After the 1982 war, the Weapons Emabrgo forced Argentina to take unorthodox aproaches to the lack of suitable ASW/MARPAT platforms. Here is depicted a (now retired, on display at the Naval Aviation Museum) a L188 "Electron". Electron stood for Electra + Orion. The idea was to incorporate off the self avionics into L-188 airframes. The concept proved succesful, the only setback being the lack of marinisation of the airframes, which led to premature corrosion. All "Electrones" were WFU after the Arrival of the P-3Bs Pic. HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: "...Argentina has been designed a MNNA (major non Nato Ally) by the US Congress a few years ago.. and we DO fly MARPAT/ASW a/c.... I think a section on our sqns would be neat. we have our ASW and MARPAT sqns, with lineages going back to Martin 139 WANs and PBY5's. We also used P2s (several versions) and "Electrons" ("militarised", a la "Orion" L188s). We currently operate 5 S-2Ts (MARPAT/ASW; refurbished, re engined and upgraded S-2Es) in an ASW sqn, 6 P-3Bs (in another ASW MARPAT sqn) and some 4 or 5 BE200M (Beech Super King Airs with recon/sea surveillance gear, mainly a bendix radar, set up in the belly like the one in the stoof and the neptune). This goes for the navy, the CG also aoperates CASA 212's in MARPAT configuration..." Contributed by Santiago L.
